The Secret to Natural, Unposed Wedding Photos

There’s a reason couples come to me saying, “We don’t want stiff, awkward photos—we just want to feel like ourselves.”

I get it. You’ve seen wedding photos that feel overly posed, where couples look like they’re standing in a lineup instead of actually living in their day. That’s not the energy you want. You want to look back at your photos and feel the movement, the emotion, and the in-between moments that make the day yours.

So, how do you get wedding photos that feel completely natural? The kind that capture not just how your day looked, but how it felt?

The Key Is Interaction, Not Posing

A lot of photographers will tell you to “stand here” or “hold hands and smile.” That’s not my style.

Instead of treating photos like a checklist, I create an experience that brings out real moments between you and your partner.

I’ll say things like:

🎶 “I’m going to play music and change the song every 10 seconds—I want you to dance like each song is your absolute favorite.”

💋 “While she looks that way, I want you to walk up, grab her chin, and kiss her like you mean it.”

🖤 “Tell her something you’ve been wanting to say all day, but whisper it so only she can hear.”

You won’t even be thinking about the camera—you’ll be fully in the moment. And that’s exactly how we get wedding photos that look and feel like you.

2. Movement Creates Emotion

A bride in a sparkling gown sprays perfume near a sunlit window, capturing an elegant and timeless wedding morning moment.

Have you ever noticed that your favorite photos are the ones where you’re not standing still?

That’s because real emotion happens in motion. The way your dress flows as you twirl. The way you burst into laughter after spinning too fast. The way your arms naturally reach for each other when you’re walking side by side.

That’s why I keep you moving throughout the day:

✔️ Walking instead of standing still

✔️ Dancing instead of posing

✔️ Turning, twirling, leaning in, pulling away—whatever makes sense for you

Photos aren’t just about looking pretty—they’re about making you feel something.

3. Trust Your Photographer (and Forget They’re There)

This one’s big.

If you feel like you have to perform in front of the camera, your photos will feel like a performance.

The best wedding photos happen when you fully trust your photographer to capture the story as it unfolds. I tell my couples, “Focus on your partner, focus on the moment, and I’ll take care of the rest.”

The result? You don’t look stiff. You don’t look like you’re faking a moment. You just look like you.

4. Let Go of the Idea That Every Photo Needs to Be Perfect

Your favorite wedding photos won’t be the ones where everything is “perfect.” They’ll be the ones where you can hear the laughter, feel the embrace, and remember exactly what was happening when the shutter clicked.

✅ The wind might catch your veil in a way you didn’t expect.

✅ Your partner might crack a joke right in the middle of your vows.

✅ You might get cake on your face during the reception.

These aren’t flaws in your wedding photos—these are the moments that make them real.

5. The Secret? Hire a Photographer Who Sees the World Like You Do

At the end of the day, natural wedding photography isn’t just about technique—it’s about vision.

Not every photographer will capture your wedding the way you see it in your mind. That’s why it’s so important to find someone whose work feels like the way you remember moments, not just how they looked.

When you find that person? That’s when the real magic happens.
